BREAKING NEWS – 3 x LION HUNTS – APRIL 2009

• Well, well, well!
• New Yorkers can really hunt with the sharp sticks after all!
• That's right – 3 guys from NEW YORK have just hunted three male lions in Africa with their Matthew Bows!

KALAHARI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE of 35000 acres offers excellent trophy qualities!

• Hunting Lions in South Africa and Africa at large has been attracting some very negative responses in the general market.
• This is mainly attributed to the 'canned hunting industry' which has seen operators hunt lions in small ranches, bred in captivity and released hours before the hunt takes place. Incidents of lions which have even been drugged has even been reported. This an absolute disgrace to the hunting industry and should be fought with all the powers within the industry.
• HUNTING FAIR CHASE is the only way we conduct our hunts and significantly different to such canned operations. We in principle don't have a problem with breeding projects, we do however have a problem with shooting such lions in small confined areas and hunted unethically. After all it is breeding projects such as these which have saved our Sable antelope and many other species today. Even Buffalo are now bred extensively for the wildlife industry and one can thus not isolate lion breeders as being culprits of anything else than just breeding animals for the industry. The problem occur when outfitters and operators buy these lions and have them hunted unecthically and in confined spaces or small pens.
• This is unhumane and should be stopped at all cost. Lions are the kings of the jungle and should have the freedom of ranging on huge open territories as they used to many years ago.
• All the lions we hunt in the Kalahari are done on such huge hunting concessions of more than 35000 acres each. Although some lions have been bred in captivity and imported to this concession by the land owners, the lions are released for a fair and ethical hunt as specified by Nature Conservation and the new laws governing this industry.
• Contrary to popular belief, their are opinions that captivity bred lions cannot fend for themselves and aren't wild! We disagree with this, as we have proof that such lions start hunting from the day they are released and are evrything but domesticated. They are still lions and even more dangeorus than believed, as they aren't in general afriad iof humans.
• By the time we obtain permits/tags to hunt lions on these reserves, they have already been released months even years before the hunt and are well adpated to the location, making such a hunt as challenging as any other. The new laws on lion hunting dictates that they can only be hunted after being released 24 months (2 x Years) prior to the hunt.
• This will make it only viable for huge ranches such as ours to still remain viable. On smaller ranches such lions will simply destroy the other animal population.
• Make no mistake hunting on a 35000 acre open concession also has it's own share of challenges, offering animals a very fair chance and an ethical hunt to the hunter.

• Our hats go off to these three men, who have just completed their first SAFARI TO AFRICA. Not only was this their first trip to Africa, but they did this in style!
• These three gentlemen, ALL BOW HUNTERS, all three from STATEN ISLAND NEW YORK and FIRST TIMERS to AFRICA, have just SHOT AND KILLED THREE MAGNIFICENT MALE LIONS with their BOWS!

WOW! WOW! WOW!

What a hunt and what an experience!

At first when Vinnie Barranco approached us at the Harrisburg Show in Pennsylavania during February 2009, we were a bit apprehensive when he asked if he could do a lion during his first Safari to Africa – WITH A BOW!

Hunting lion is not a walk in the park under normal scenarios in any case, however doing it with a bow requires a lot more. Not to mention the fact that this was expected on the man's first safari to Africa. To fuel the apprehension, the request was that him and both his buddies (Steve and Tommy) wanted a male lion each during this safari.

As we are sure you will understand, this came as quite a challenge and the apprehension grew stronger as the time closed in on us. We sure hoped that these guys would have the metal and discipline to see this through!

WELL, discipline they had – AND metal, more than anyone could ask for!

Not only did these guys shoot like absolute professionals, but they kept their cool and laid the table for one of the best lion hunts we have experienced in a while. Once again our hats go off to Vinnie, Steve and Tommy for showing us what New Yorkers are made of.

They were shooting 70 lbs MATTHEW BOWS with broadheads, and took some of the best shots we have ever seen taken by bow. We took them up close and personal to their targets, as more than 30 yards wouldn't suffice, and we can tell you this much – they stood their ground, took their shots well and struck a home run in the vitals with every shot they made. Not one single charge could be made as these lions were dead on their feet after the first arrows struck home – a sure victory for bow hunters and a new HUNTING LEGENDS RECORD.

RECORD = 3 x MALE LIONS TAKEN ON ONE SAFARI WITH 70 lbs MATTHEW BOWS!

And, to cap this all off … IT'S ALL ON FILM! The hunt was accompanied by Mr Keith Powell (President) and Heath Painter (Producer) of SPORTSMEN of NORTH AMERICA TV! Sportsmen of North America has this entire hunt on film and will be doing a TV SHOW of this amazing and adventurous hunt, so keep watching your favorite TV SHOW for the full show. We also want to thank Keith Powell and Heath Painter for their loyal support and the exciting hunt they also had. Yes, that's right – Keith and Heath not only filmed the lion hunt for us, but also had their own share of hunting and adventure with us during the same trip. Keith shot his first magnificent CAPE BUFFALO and quite a number of plains game. Although it was still a young bull, this bull had an excellent spread of 39" and an attitude to go with it. When we sighted the buffalo's, this bull immediately took charge and came at a fast pace up to about 65 yards away when Keith pounded it with his new custom Remington .416. What an adrenalin rush we had with all the stomping and excitement of a fast and furious hunt.
